Nearly seventy consignments of medical and recreational marijuana from a Denver dispensary have been recalled by the state Marijuana Enforcement Division on potential contamination by molds and yeasts.
According to a health and safety advisory issued Oct. 15 by MED, seven medical marijuana harvest lots and one recreational marijuana lot grown by the Chronic Factory failed yeast and mold tests. An additional batch of medical marijuana failed water activity tests.
In addition, 33 other recreational crops and 27 medical crops were processed and released to the market although they were not tested for contaminants. The strains were harvested between May and June and sold between June 10 and October 14 of this year, according to MED.
Located at 150 Rio Grande Boulevard, the Chronic Factory opened last year in the old New Amsterdam Organics dispensary. This is the first marijuana recall issued by MED in nearly seven months, and the first ever issued for water activity testing, a new testing requirement implemented in July to protect products at marijuana base against moisture that can contaminate products after packaging.
âConsumers with these affected products in their possession should return them to The Chronic Factory LLC for proper disposal. Consumers who experience adverse health effects from consuming the affected products should seek medical attention immediately and report the event to store where they purchased the product, “reads the MED recall.
According to Chronic Factory co-owner Matt Lopez, a now laid-off employee forgot to point the sixty untested crop lots to MED for testing. As for the strains that failed microbial tests, Lopez says they came from samples that had been left in the back of a safe for about four months by an official, this is how the recalled marijuana was was sold in June.
âIf you put something with moisture in a bag for four months, it will eventually go moldy,â Lopez explains. “We will never deliberately test our product or sell something that has failed.”
