Filters: Washable pre-filter, activated carbon filter and HEPASilent filter
Room size: 540 square feet
What you will love: Although it doesn’t have a True HEPA filter like many others on this list, the Blueair air purifier uses its own filtration method called HEPASilent technology, which claims to catch particles as small as 0.1 microns. The brand claims that this filtration method is comparable (and possibly more efficient) than traditional HEPA filters. The first layer of defense is the washable fabric prefilter that traps large particles, while the activated carbon layer is what traps odors (whether they come from mold, cooking, or pets). The air purifier can be placed almost anywhere in the room as it filters in all directions and it has only one button, so it is very easy to use.
Keep in mind: Some reviewers experienced unpleasant plastic-like odors during the first few days of use. “This smell disappeared after a few days, so don’t let that stop you from trying this device,” one person wrote.
What critics say:I had great difficulty breathing after exposure to then unknown mould,” one customer wrote. “Between the moment the mold was discovered and the time it took to bring in a contractor to fix it, I couldn’t breathe inside…the purifier got me breathing almost immediately.”
